Time for new medication

Day 315.

The light of a horizon

My latest PET scan showed the inflammation in my heart is back.

I visited my rheumatologist today and he advised that we will be adding Inflixmab to my treatment plan.

I was expecting to drop Methotrexate, since it isn't working. I also expected to increase the Prednisone dosage to nip the inflammation in the bud and spare my heart any more damage.

However my rheumatologist recommended that I just add Infliximab to my current medication mix.

In New Zealand, Infliximab (also known as Remicade) is approved for pulmonary sarcoidosis (in the lungs) and neuro sarcoidosis (in the brain). But not for cardiac sarcoidosis.

The rheumatologist has had to apply for special permission from Pharmac to fund the medication for me. Fingers crossed.
